The Truth Will Set You Free

& after what felt like 200 years of insomnia, I closed my eyes.

My head felt like a piece of cheese, in a mouse trap, nibbled at by a greedy mouse.

My phone rung!

Marshall, I said, it’s 2.35am!

You need to see this, meet me at 3am on the Canal bridge & he hung up!

What did I want more? Sleep or more nibble at my head?

On the bridge, I gazed at the reflection of the moon on the canal surface.

Tom Waits was singing in my head:

“Everything has its price, everything has its place, what could be more romantic than dying in the moonlight.”

Marshall arrived, looked more paranoid than I ever did! Looked around with sinister expectancy & handed me a note!

I read it, shook my head in expected disbelief.

Looked up at Marshall & his eyes filled with tears……….

“and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32 ESV)”
